Abdul, an internally displaced person who fled to Kabul because of the war between the Taliban and the NATO, sits in front of his mud house in an IDP camp on the outskirts of Kabul. Moments before, he explained to us how foreign troops supposedly bombarded his old home in Helmand province, killing several members of his family.

Congolese soldiers guard a vaccination campaign conducted by the WHO to decrease the spread of Ebola.
The village, which was regarded as a hotspot at the time, was controlled by an armed group. After negotiations, the militia eventually granted access to the health workers.

Working in the region is a difficult task and NGOs continuously had to adapt and evolve their strategies, often facing dilemmas in the process.
On the one hand, health staff has been repeatedly attacked by angry mobs, resulting in some NGOs to step up their security measures. On the other hand, those NGOs have been criticized for politicizing the health crisis by getting the Congolese military and police involved, in a region that has been historically opposed to the government.
