WHO WE ARE

Dennis and Patrick Weinert in the DR Congo, 2016.

Dennis and Patrick Weinert are filmmakers, photographers and authors, whose work is centered around social and environmental issues, as well as armed conflicts.

Since 2017, the brothers have been based in various South and Southeast Asian countries, most recently in Vietnam and Nepal.

With their full-service production companies Weinert Brothers GbR (Europe) and Weinert Brothers Limited (Asia), Dennis and Patrick specialise in delivering non-fiction content from challenging environments and on under-reported subjects.

As freelance correspondents for various German and European public broadcasters, the brothers have spent more than eight years reporting from Asia and Africa and have written, directed and shot documentaries in locations such as the Central African Republic, Congo-Kinshasa, Pakistan, India, or Afghanistan. Their films have been shown on ARTE, DW, ZDF, 3sat, ARD, SRF, FUNK and NZZ Format.

In 2021, Dennis’ and Patrick’s report on child labour in Pakistan was awarded with the Helmut Schmidt Journalistenpreis (1st Prize, Category Newcomer). For their 24-min-reportage about the Ebola epidemic in eastern D.R. Congo in 2019, they received the Peter Scholl-Latour Award for conflict and crisis reporting.

When Dennis and Patrick are not working as TV correspondents, they focus on developing their personal experimental photography and film projects. The brothers have written, curated and published two volumes of documentary photo books (2015 & 2019) and have directed and produced their debut essay short film Hinter unserem Horizont (Beyond our Horizon, 2020), which was commissioned by ZDF & 3sat and received a nomination for a Grimme Award.
